Common Questions

How will you help my child settle in?

Settling into new environments can take time. At Thrive Montessori we require children to attend at least one, one hour orientation visit before starting. This is to provide you and your child with an opportunity to familiarise yourselves with the teachers, children, routines and environment.

Although it is tempting if your child is upset to “sneak out” when your child is pre-occupied, in the longer term we find this is not the best option. We recommend that you say goodbye to your child and reassure them that you will be returning to collect them later in the day.

Please feel free to ring the preschool during the day to check your child’s progress.

We do ask that when you come for a visit or Orientation Visit that you turn your mobile off. This is so we can respect the “Children’s House”.

What should my child bring every day?

Your child will need to bring a named bag, big enough to fit their clothes and other belongings in. The bag should contain:

  • At least one change of named clothing.
  • A packed lunch and morning tea, a drink bottle.

A sunhat for the warmer months and a raincoat and gumboots for winter.

Will you provide food?

As Thrive Montessori are preschools, we expect children to bring packed lunches. We encourage parents to make these as healthy as possible to encourage good eating habits.

How do you communicate with parents?

We disseminate a parent newsletter each month, or more often if required. This advises of any policy updates and upcoming events and activities.

We hold parent evenings periodically so staff and parents can discuss the preschool and Montessori philosophy and approach to education.

From time to time, we will conduct parent questionnaires to obtain feedback. This may be general feedback about the preschool, or an opportunity to gather parents’ views on a particular issue.

Staff and management are always available to discuss any matter regarding your child and preschool. We recommend that you make an appointment so that teachers can be available without interruption.

Do you participate in the 20 free hours’ scheme?

Yes we do!

Under this scheme if your child is between the ages of three and six, they can receive up to 6 hours per day for a total of 20 hours per week free. For more information about this, please get in touch.

Why should I choose a Little Earth Montessori preschool?

Recent studies have shown that a childs early years are critical to their brain development and this development is influenced by the child’s experiences. The Montessori programme and learning environment is designed to enhance that development during those critical years. Children learn through hands-on activities, they can repeat activities as much as they wish (repetition is important), they are encouraged to explore and experiment, they get to make decisions, use their judgement, think laterally, use initiative; all in a safe and encouraging environment.
